A 28-residue thymic peptide studied for Toll-like-receptor signaling and T-cell maturation in immune research.

Originally purified from thymic tissue, thymosin alpha-1 participates in T-lymphocyte maturation. Published work describes signaling through Toll-like receptors, principally TLR2 and TLR9, on dendritic cells and monocytes, with MyD88-dependent activation driving downstream cytokine programs. It is a common reference standard in innate-immunity and vaccine-adjuvant research, and is distinct from the beta-series thymosins such as thymosin beta-4.
