A heptapeptide ACTH(4-7) analog with a Pro-Gly-Pro tail for peptidase resistance, studied for BDNF expression and neuroprotection.
Semax takes the ACTH(4-7) fragment and appends Pro-Gly-Pro, which blocks rapid enzymatic degradation while removing the corticotropic activity of the parent hormone. Published work reports elevated BDNF and TrkB receptor expression in hippocampal tissue along with shifts in monoamine turnover. That combination, neurotrophic signaling without steroidogenesis, is why it appears in cognition and cerebral-ischemia literature rather than endocrine studies.
