BPC-157 and TB-500: a research overview

BPC-157

BPC-157 is a synthetic 15-residue peptide corresponding to a partial sequence of a protein found in gastric juice. Its stability under acidic conditions is part of why it became a common laboratory reference standard.

The published work is preclinical. In cell-culture and rodent models it appears in studies of angiogenesis, fibroblast migration, tendon-to-bone healing kinetics, and gastrointestinal mucosal repair, and is often discussed alongside growth-factor and nitric-oxide signalling in those experimental contexts.

The scope of that literature is worth stating directly: animal-model and in-vitro findings do not establish human effects, and BPC-157 is not an approved therapeutic in Canada or elsewhere.

TB-500

TB-500 is a synthetic peptide corresponding to a biologically active region of Thymosin Beta-4, a naturally occurring actin-sequestering protein.

In preclinical research the corresponding region is studied for its role in actin regulation and cell migration, in in-vitro and animal-model contexts. As with BPC-157, this is a research literature rather than a clinical one.

The two are frequently studied side by side, which is why they are often discussed together — not because that comparison implies anything about use.

Why purity and identity matter to the work

Results are only as reliable as the material behind them. A mislabelled or contaminated batch does not produce a null result; it produces a confounded one, and often an unreproducible one, which is worse because it is harder to notice.

Two separate questions are worth answering before a batch goes into an experiment. How pure is it — the HPLC number, ideally with the chromatogram. And is it the right molecule — which is what a mass-spec identity run establishes, and which HPLC purity alone does not.

Our certificates cover the first question and not the second: HPLC purity and related substances, water content, and an endotoxin pass/fail, issued by the manufacturer's QC laboratory rather than an independent one. If your work requires independent identity confirmation, that is a test to arrange rather than one to assume.

Verifying the batch in front of you

Match the batch number on the certificate to the batch number on the vial. If they do not correspond exactly, the certificate is about different material.

Look at the chromatogram rather than only the percentage — one clearly dominant peak, without a cluster of large neighbours.

Check the water content, because lyophilised peptide is hygroscopic and the reported mass is not all peptide.
