The C-terminal tripeptide of alpha-MSH, studied for anti-inflammatory signaling without the pigmentation activity of the parent hormone.
KPV is the three-residue tail of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. Published work describes it acting intracellularly rather than through surface melanocortin receptors, interfering with NF-kB and MAPK signaling and the cytokine transcription downstream of them. Because it drops the melanocortin-receptor activity of full-length alpha-MSH, it is used in inflammation screens where pigmentation effects would confound the readout.
